ENTRY REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL CREW
Seafarer’s Medical Certificate
Issued by specialized Seaman’s Doctor authorized to carry out the examination of the Seafarers wishing to work onboard Ships and Yachts.
In Thailand there are at least two different readily available Seafarer’s Medical Certificate formats: ENG1 by UK certified doctor and Norwegian Seafarers Doctor’s Certificate issued by doctors licenced by Norway, both equally good options.
In addition to those any IMO Whitelisted Country’s Authorized Seamans Doctor Issued Seafarer’s Medical Certificate is acceptable.
Seafarers Medical Certificate (or ENG1) is valid for two (2) years from the examination.
Search the Internet for the closest Seafarers Doctor for you, most likely in Bangkok (Samitivej Hospital Sukhumvit in Bangkok advertise Norwegian Seafarer’s Medical and it is believed to cost around THB 4 000).
STCW Basic Safety Training
Standards for Training, Certification and Watchkeeping stipulate that all Crew must undergo basic Safety Training before accepting work onboard a ship or a yacht.
STCW Basic Training can be acquired in any certified Training facility, and course certificates are valid for five (5) years.
In Thailand there are multiple Maritime Training Centres offering STCW 2010 Basic Safety Training packages, search Internet for the closest training facility in Bangkok, Pattaya or Phuket.
Package Prices vary but it is believed to be in the range of THB 40 000 – 50 000 for a five (5) day course.
It is a lot of money to acquire the Seafarer´s medical and STCW safety training courses but onboard Private Superyachts you will earn that investment back in couple of weeks.
You can Apply for the position without Seafarer´s Medical Certificate and STCW Basic Safety and only invest in those after you have been offered the position.
This way you don´t have to pay anything before securing your new career and future.
